Isaac were appointed to build a section of the Quarrymans Trail that connects areas in the south west to the central city (as shown in the image above). The new cycleway runs from Strickland Street, down Roker Street, then down Frankleigh Street and Sparks Road. The cycleway crosses two major intersections at Lyttelton Street and Hoon Hay Road.
This complex project involved the construction of 4,710m2 of cycleway, 3,200m2 of shoulder and carriageway, 4,300m2 of new footpath and residential crossings, 172m of ductile iron watermain, 330m of stormwater as well as kerb and channel, landscaping and signage. The project also included two major intersection upgrades where roundabouts were converted to signalised intersections. In addition to this, two other signalised crossings were built including 29 new traffic lights and 870m of ducting installed. In order for the overhead power lines to be taken down approximately 1,100m of power, chorus and Vodafone cables were relocated underground and connected to the houses between Lyttelton Street and Hoon Hay Road. This project was delivered successfully by Isaac Construction as the head contractor working with the Christchurch City Council’s selected design and construct consultants Peloton.
