This project involved construction of a new coach park, taxi loop and parking space concurrent with the construction of a new international-domestic terminal at Christchurch International Airport.
Contract works were situated in the main public parking area in front of the Christchurch International Airport terminal buildings, so stringent traffic control and pedestrian management was imperative in this safety critical, operational airport environment. The scope of work included extensive pavement construction, AC and concrete paving, new storm water systems and piping, construction of a 300m steel-framed and covered pedestrian walkway, supply & installation of street lighting, power supply and communications ducting & cabling.
Programming was tightly controlled and crews worked within rigid time-frames to ensure essential deadlines were met that were crucial to construction. Multiple activities were coordinated with CIAL operations and subcontractors to deliver the project on time. CIAL staff were impressed with the coordination and cooperation experienced on this project, which completed on time in April 2012 and included additional variation works requested by CIAL.
